In the early 1960s, the United States began developing D6AC, which is improved from AISI 4340 steel.

Industrial Application

It is widely used in manufacturing tactical and strategic missile engine casings and aircraft structural components. By the mid-1970s, D6AC gradually replaced other alloy structural steels, becoming a specialized steel for manufacturing solid rocket motor casings. US new ground-to-air missile "Patriot", small missile "Red Eye", medium and large missiles "Minuteman", "Pershing", "Polaris", "Hercules", etc., and the φ3.7m booster casing of the US Space Shuttle are also made of D6AC steel. D6AC has also been used for F-111 aircraft undercarriage and wing shafts.
